Schedule:
Arrival
Plan to arrive at the site on April 27 no later than noon.
You are welcome to come a day early on and stay overnight on April 26 at no additional cost. If you plan to do so, please reach out to info@thecyclecommunity.org no later than March 28 so we know to expect you. If you come early, please be sure to provide your own food for that time.
Land workday
While the retreat is complete on Friday, May 1, each retreat ends with a community work day to tend the land. One way we embody the teachings together is through making time to give back to the land that holds us during the retreats. This is not mandatory but is expected as part of the retreat unless you have a young child you need to get back to or other important extenuating circumstances. (If you are not staying for the land workday, please arrange your departure for after 8:00 pm on May 1.)
The workday will be from 9am - 1pm on Saturday, May 2.
Afterwards we will have an optional evening spending time together, sharing stories, music, whimsy, and other jabberwocky.
If you participate in the workday, you are welcome to spend the night at the retreat site on May 2 at no additional charge. If you plan to stay on the night of May 2, please reach out to info@thecyclecommunity.org no later than March 28 so we know to expect you.
Leftover food will be available to eat during this time after the retreat.
Departure
Plan to depart the farm no later than 10am on May 3.
Travel:
Non local attendees will be arriving through Portland International Airport (PDX). The airport is roughly 15 miles from Troutdale Farm, or typically a 35-45 minutes drive.
There is light rail, Uber/etc, and car pooling for pick ups to assist people getting to the retreat site. Once all registrations are confirmed, ride sharing and airport pick ups can be organized by participants.
Food:
No pork, beef or lamb is served during this event. The caterer is able to provide gluten free, vegetarian, vegan, dairy free, and nightshade free meal options. Please note your preferences and allergies when you register.
If you have additional special needs, please bring your own food to suit your body or to supplement the catering. A refrigerator is available to accommodate personal items. We ask that personal food requires minimal preparation in order to keep the kitchen clear for the caterers.
Sleeping arrangements:
Camping
Camping is the only “private room” option available.
Vans, RVs, campers, tents, etc are all welcome.
Be prepared for all weather - rain, cold, heat, winds. Have tarps and tie downs in your gear to accommodate the environment. There are no supplies at the farm to supplement your comfort.
You will have access to showers and bathrooms inside.
If you choose to camp, the cost of the retreat will be reduced by $150.
Dormitory Style
The house sleeps 16 people in 4 bedrooms with various configurations of bunk beds, single, and queen beds. You will be sharing a room with at least one other person.
There are two bathrooms with 3 showers and 3 toilets to share among all participants.
Concerned about sleeping facilities due to special considerations? Let us know at info@thecyclecommunity.org.
What to Bring:
Recommended
Clothes to accommodate fluctuating temperatures from hot, windy, dry to cold rains.
Comfortable clothes to wear indoors during dancing, movement, and journeying.
Comfortable, sturdy shoes for outdoor rituals and the workday. Please be prepared for these shoes to get muddy.
Indoor-only slippers, non skid socks, and/or dancing shoes as no regular shoes are worn inside the house and the primary floor tends to be chilly and hard.
Your own towel if you are staying onsite, camping or in-house (no towels will be provided).
Personal toiletries as long as they are septic-safe products. Dr. Bronner’s or similar will be provided.
Swimsuit and water shoes (sturdy water shoes like chacos, tevas, etc are extremely helpful).
Bug spray + sun skin protection (sunscreen, hats, long sleeve clothes, SPF clothing, etc).
Offerings to the land and shrine + altar items. Examples may include tobacco, sage + other dried plants, totems, special small objects, rocks + crystals, incense, chocolate, candies, etc.
A rattle (or a pill bottle, etc - whatever makes a rattle-like noise).
Craft items to share if possible. Specifically, think about what is in abundance from your home lands (ex: shells, feathers, woods, etc). Other items might include yarns, small pieces of fabric, construction paper, scissors, etc. Think about non-toxic and natural materials that can be burned in a fire without creating poisons.
Optional
Special or sacred clothing for outdoor rituals.
Check the weather and check in with yourself. Determine if you need to bring supplemental bedding in addition to what is provided (a sheet set, blanket, and pillow).
Musical instruments you play and want to share.
COVID
Covid Protocol
Please be extra cautious in the five days leading up to travel. Consider quarantining, especially from high-risk public areas (restaurants, bars, public bathrooms and really any public indoor space) or at least masking when navigating them.
If you are traveling by plane or other public transportation, please mask during your travel.
Please take a Covid test the morning before you travel to confirm your status. If you experience any Covid symptoms before getting onsite, please let your house assistant know before your arrival.
When you arrive, we will have tests onsite for you to test with again before you enter the Art Farm.
Wearing masks during the retreat is welcome but not required. This protocol might change when COVID cases are surging or if a participant gets sick during the retreat.
Masks will be available on hand or you can bring your own.
Covid tests will be available onsite for illnesses that may occur during the retreat.
Please connect with the house assistant if you feel sick or have concerns about Covid during the retreat.
If a participant ends up testing positive for COVID upon arrival or during the retreat, they will not be able to complete the retreat and will not be able to stay at the Art Farm. We will have a list of nearby hotels on hand, and the house assistant will be available to help with finding a place to quarantine.
Covid Philosophy
The above protocol was created to support us being able to do good work together. To not follow these protocols puts everyone at risk. Please take the above precautions as an act of care for everyone in your cohort, our caterers, your teachers and our community. This is one way we lean into our community selves.
Following these protocols likely requires experiencing some moments of discomfort for each of us. We live in times where divesting from the oppressive systems harming all life on Earth will require leaning into discomfort as we work to support each other through these big transitions.
Remember to use your skills and hold your center and focus on the vision of what we're coming together to do this week. We invite you to offer these choices consciously as a sacrifice that helps create new possibilities for our shared vision moving into the world.
Please reach out to info@thecyclecommunity.org with any concerns you may have about Covid before the retreat.
